My braided line keeps breaking when casting or fighting a fish.
Answer: It sounds like one of the guides on your fishing rod might have a chip or scratch inside the eye.
The way to check each guide for damage is as follows. Take a q-tip or cotton swab or even ladies pantyhose. (just don't tell your wife your using her apparel for this application) Place the q-tip/cotton swab inside each guide and rub the q-tip around the entire interior of the guide. Use a little bit of pressure. If the guide is chipped or scratched the cotton will stick to that area leaving cotton fibers in the chip or scratch.
The other possibilities would be a chipped or scratched roller on your bail or even a loose roller on your reel. The same q-tip test above will work.
The last two places to check would be your spool lip to make sure there are no chips and your line clip which is on the side of your spool. The spool lip you can also use the q-tip or cotton. The line clip would only cause this problem if at the end of your fishing day you remove all your hooks and lures. Then secure your braided line (not your leader) in the spool line clip. The line clips on spools are notorious for cutting partially through the line.
I hope this helps. Thanks for sending The Online Fisherman your question. Let all your friends know if they have a question The Online Fisherman always has an answer!!!!
