Yesterday I fished in the annual O'Brien's Irish Pub's Christmas party. The owners give everyone who has worked there for the last year a day on the water with some of Tampa Bay's finest captains. Every year they turn it into a fishing tournament, this year the tournament was longest combined inches total inshore slam.
This year my boat won, we had a combined 72" inshore slam. It consisted of a 27" Snook, 28" redfish, 17" trout. My anglers landed over 15 redfish, 10 Snook, 8 trout, numerous jacks, ladyfish and the dreaded catfish.
We are enjoying a banner year for redfish catches, almost any flat you find are holding schools of redfish. Start your search on the flats by slowly approaching large schools of redfish and fish around the perimeter of the school with your choice of bait. As the tide moves in you will find lots of redfish under mangrove trees, cast your baits under the trees and hang on. My bait of choice lately has been live whitebait or pinfish with the tail trimmed off on the flats, and cut bait under the mangrove trees.
Here are some more photos from the trip!
Good Luck and Tight lines!
