Tampa Bay
If you were not able to get out this past weekend, do not fret. There is still plenty of phenomenal fishing to be had in Tampa Bay. I decided to fish the bay area on Superbowl Sunday with a few friends and try to catch a variety of fish species and test out one of Kris Greene's Custom Rods. If you have not seen or heard of his rods you are definitely missing out. Not only is it appeasing to the eye, but once you have this rod in your hands you can truly feel the difference that makes this rod stand out amongst the rest. Weighing in at a mere two ounces this rod is the lightest rod on the market today! It's what any fisherman dreams of, not only is this rod super-light but the durability of the rod is impeccable. I was able to pick up the light bites from snapper and sheepshead and still be able to turn large snook and redfish away from the mangroves.
If you want more information on the rods you can contact Kris at (813) 376-4671 or check out his website HERE and he can design your very own dream rod.
But back to the fishing, we launched from the Gandy boat ramp and we were able to find white bait at the mouth of the channel. I recommend using a larger net any where in the 10 to 12' class due to the bait staging in deeper water. A couple throws of the net we loaded up both live wells with white bait and headed to some nearby rock piles. We managed a few snapper and sheepshead and had fun with those guys until the tide got high enough to go after some snook. Once the tide reached the right height we headed straight to Weedon Island in search of snook. No sooner of me poling into the first lagoon I saw snook cruising up and down the mangroves. With a couple of sprays of the chum bait we had snook blowing up on baits all over. We stayed in this area for the next two hours and landed close to 40 snook and some in the 30'' range. If you want to get on an awesome snook bite right now i would try to get out as soon as possible while the tides are still good.
