I got an opportunity to go fishing with a dear friend of mine – by the name of Dave Miller – at a place any of you reading this report should consider if you're planning a world-class billfishing adventure. The target of our visit to the beautiful Latin American country were billfish, and man, did we have a day. It happened to be my friend's birthday, and we got 20 fish – Twenty! – alongside the boat. We only got to “Leader Release” seventeen of them. (The IGFA required method of holding the leader while the fish is released; slip-offs don't count, nor do the professional releases you get if the hook breaks or straightens, which chromium steel can do when squeezed hard enough by a 400lb marlin!).
We ended up landing mostly pacific striped marlin and one black marlin that was 400lbs. Quite a day with 17 official marlin releases!
