It didn't happen last for what I think was lack of interest or planning. I was really looking forward to it.

Did it happen the first year and just not last year?

Im in. Room for 2 more on my boat.

Edit: I guess I didn't read the thread. For some reason I thought this was the thread about experienced tarpon guys going oit with guys who have never caught tarpon.

Maybe it is. 10 pages is too much to go through right now. I'm going to bed.

Edit #2. Yup...that's what the thread is about. So yeah, Jack, I am in as a guy who has a boat but never landed a BIG tarpon.

I didn't have a boat last time this was attempted. Tarpon is on my bucket list.

Im in but will probably need one of the more experienced guys on my boat. I should have room for 2 more.

Also if I can help with anything at all please let me know. I'd love to be involved.

I never caught a Tarpon so I'd be in too, but only have a tandem kayak... so a strong paddler is more than welcomed on board... :)

Hey LKuba generally in the past is we have held some classroom seminars on tarpon fishing and how we do it in the bay, which differs from tactics used in Boca Grande and differs from how they are generally fished in the keys. We still have a lot of time to get these lists together but we will get a list of guys with boats who are willing to take other forum members out that may not have a boat or have the oppurtunity to target them.

I personally like the skyway bridge- the hole at egmont-and the beaches depending on when it is, but also the gandy, the franklin, and the CCC will hold them later into the season.

If you are looking to getting a setup for tarpon this year Ill tell you my favorite rig.

Kris Greene custom tarpon rod. 8ft 20-40lb rod
4500 Daiwa Saltist spinning reel
65lb power pro
60-80lb flouro leader
hooks depend on the bait and thats something that can get covered in the classes.

Wow! That's a lot of bucks. I know Kris charges at least $250 and that's just the rod! I know you tarpon fish a lot so that's a good investment for you. For me, who only fished for tarpon a couple of years ago, I took Dave Rieumont's suggestions at TFO and paid, I think, under $150. Unfortunately, due to operator error  the rig now rests somewhere under the Skyway. :fishing02:

P. S. Thanks again, Tim and Dawn. :)

I just found this thread and it sounds like a cool idea. I didn't get a chance to read through to see how last year went but I would def be interested if people are attempting this year. I am new to fishing FL and just got a boat. Tarpon is definitely something I will be going for this season but I don't know much about it yet. Any idea if this is going on this year?

Sorry you lost that rod Barry.

We're in again if we can get it going. Still need to get one to the boat. Met a bunch of good people doing it the first time around.
