So I don't keep fish often, and really hate filleting them, but decided to keep a trout today. I'm filleting it and notice little while sacks in it, I have seen them many times before and figured they were fat sacks or something, well I squeezed one and out shot a white string. I poked it and it wiggled, so I guess this is what a worm looks like.
I've eaten tons of fish in my life with these same types of worms, am I going to die? Lol.

Seriously though are there any problems with eating them after they have been cooked? How do you guys handle them?

Its not actually a worm but a parasite.

Once cooked it taste no different than the rest of the fish. I dont know for sure but I dont think they will harm a human uncooked.

People have been eating trout, black drum and other fish that carry these parasite for longer than you and I have been alive. I have never heard of an incident where it did any harm to a human.

I for one dont eat trout because I just dont like the texture of the meat.

These white sacks were right in the meat?

I believe id let the pelicans snack on that one!
Three-fourths of the Earth’s surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the
lawn.

I've heard that the worms/parasites are only harmful to sharks. You can cut them out, i do, or leave them and the fish is fine to eat. I hold the fish up to a light and check for them.

Yep the sacks were in the meat. Look like little round white bb's. I keep getting mixed reviews on the worm thing, not sure what direction I'll go.
