Are you guys casting to the pilings, or dropping the crabs straight down? Free line? Haven't fished for these brutes here yet but plan on it next week. Thanks!

Cut the crabs in half and put them on a 3/4 oz jig...drop it close to the pilings as possible. They'll be on the bottom right on the structure. You should get hooked up pretty fast. You'll need to muscle them out before they wrap you around the structure. There are definitely 40-50# fish under those bridges.

Awesome. Didn't know how sensitive they were to boats floating above them. My Gheenoe is only powered by a trolling motor so I'm not noisy just didn't know their sensitivity level. Cool can't wait to hook up with some next week. I'm assuming evening is better, huh? That's how it use to be off the east coast. Tide matter?

10-15 knots means you can get away with it until at least noon when the wind actually begins to blow. I find from daybreak to noon the wind is always at it's minimum (all things relative). In the yak it's different because you don't wan to fight the wind all the way back, prudent to know which way the wind will be blowing late in the day.

You dont need to be right on the pilings....as soon as that crab hits the bottom those fish can smell it. I like anchoring away from the bridge and making short casts to it. Its a lot less headache than trying to navigate the boat through the bridge pilings, but then again if your using light tackle then that may be neccesary.
