Decided to stay close to home since the weather forcast was bad. Figured if it started pouring I could get off the water pretty quick. Really wasn't expecting much and man was I surprised. Launched about 10 am and it started off pretty slow. Drifted down stream from State street and not much happening all the way down the trail but a few small blow ups on the spook Jr. The water really wasn't moving much yesterday, almost flat really. I really wasn't expecting much. So I Switched to jiggin a swimming mullet gulp and quickly got tired of the puffers and ladies tearing em up so I stuck with the spook. Went all the way out in the bay far to the left and worked the grass flats a bit. Just got a few small trout, couple cats and ladies to this point. Bahhh!! Another typical day I thought to myself but that was about to change..
We made our way back towards DB and discovered a nice trail back in to the park by accident. Ran in to a guy bow fishing. Looked interesting... Hmm. Anyways, once we got back in the park we I headed east along the shoreline and I landed my first Snook off topwater finally. Little 16" but still gave me a nice fight.

We made our way north a bit and Nelson picked up a nice 18" red. Kept moving north throwing the bone spook Jr and I could see something of decent size following my lure but didn't bite. Threw it back out there again, same thing, followed it but no bite! One more time and Whamo! Man this red felt like a pig! I was certain it was my personal best when I got a good look at him in the water. He looked huge and beautiful. The deepest bronze red coloration I've seen, very healthy looking fish. He didn't really seem to fight much but kindof lethargic really. I thought any minute he's gonna take off and break me off so I made sure my drag was loose. Finally got him to the yak after about 5 minutes and got him in the net. IT SHRUNK I swear! I thought for sure it was over 30" but when I measured it was a little over 27. He was a fat sucker though.
So I figured after I got the red id photograph a trout to make it official, lol.
This was probably the first time I've thrown topwater at DB all day and I can't tell u how many big blowups, big splashes that missed. How the Hell these things can avoid a treble I have no idea. Very annoying but still exciting. :). What a great day it ended up being. We were off the water by 4:30. The sun had us wooped.
I got a few trout, don't really bother photographing them anymore unless they are biggins :
