Amazing day fishing at the Skyway bridge. After catching a lot of snook inland my fishing buddy and I decided to find some redfish so we paddled out towards the deeper mangrove edges closer to the gulf. My buddy hooks a redfish in short order and radios me over to the front of the mangrove. As I am paddling towards him my jaw drops in disbelief. I spot a large copper mass moving in front of me and I doubt what I see but reactively cast my spook into the pod. Immediately a fish hits and misses but a 2nd one eagerly takes the lure and I have a fish on. As I am fighting this fish my 2nd rod with a LiveTarget sardine starts screaming and now I have 2 fish on. I immediately pull in my 3rd line hoping not to hook a 3rd and end up with a tangled mess. The first fish continues to fight and pull drag for at least 4 good runs, when I see it the first time I know it is very thick and nearly over slot. After I subdue the first fish I am amazed to see the 2nd fish is still hooked and I bring him in after a few good runs. After all the excitement I have 2 fish, one measuring 26" and the other one 23.5".

This fish was a beast and broke one of my spook jr hook posts off.

Nice 2nd bonus fish off of LiveTarget sardine.

Spook going into retirement..

It was amazing to see a redfish pod the for the first time. I have always read about them schooling, hopefully I find a few more pods in the next few weeks.

There have been huge schools of redfish around the skyway & pinellas point area lately. Note the tide and area you saw them and you should be able to find them in the same spot again.
