So I had high hopes today of heading out early in my yak for a little fishing but I was feeling a bit under the weather and ended up sleeping in. I was feeling pretty cruddy most of the day then at lunch I got a message from a friend about how he had caught a bunch of trout and jacks this morning. Suddenly I felt much better so around 4:30 I headed out to the west end of Gandy with my fiancee. After all, I couldn't let my friend catch all the fish today. We put in and using some new found knowledge from the site and forums, found a spot that I had seen on Google Earth that looked pretty fishy. My suspicions were correct and I could see the bait breaking the surface everywhere so I tied on a bone/silver spook jr. and tossed it out a few times. This was my first time using a topwater and I had no idea if I was doing it right but I must have been because suddenly there was an explosion of water and it was fish on! After a fun fight I landed my first trout! First time using a topwater and my first trout, I was on top of the world! The wind started picking up and I was having a rough time staying put (I don't have an anchor or stakeout pole yet) so I decided to use the wind to my advantage and paddled over to a mangrove edge to try my luck there. The wind blew me on down the edge and I just kept casting over to the mangroves and working as much water as I could. I ended up with a decent jack crevalle which put up a good fight. After this we decided to head back since the sun was getting pretty low and we were getting hungry. We got back and had a nice meal of trout, mmm mmm good!

nice fish man. I love to throw the topwater too. The more fish you catch on it, the more often you'll throw it...funny how that works.lol Hey make sure you change the hooks on it, to some 3x or 4x strong hooks, the ones that come one it are notorious for straightening out on big strong fish. Good Luck on your next trip, hopefully you will get another species on it to increase your love of the topwater "experience"

For the record...I f'ing hate replacing hooks on these things...especially the JRs...
