No it is not the same. The tide will move from south to north when it is incoming and north to south when it is outgoing along the Atlantic ocean. So lets use a scenario of Flagler beach area and Bulow Creek where you like to fish.
If the tide is incoming at Flagler Beach and will be high at 10:00 am, it will take more time to move all the way up and back into Bulow Creek. The further up the creek you go the later the high tide time will be. So if your a few miles up Bulow Creek the tide might be at its full high at 12:00pm.. So you could fish the high tide at the mouth of Bulow Creek at 10:00am and follow the tide in and fish the high tide a few miles up the creek at 12:00pm. The same would go for the low tide. There are also many other factors that effect the tide and tidal current coming in and going out, one being wind. So lets say that same incoming tide that is flowing up Bulow Creek going northward and is suppose to be high at 12:00pm. That same day there is a 25 mph (extreme wind just for example) wind coming out of the north. That will delay the tide from its 12:00pm high way up the creek.
There are times that the wind and weather conditions can prevent the tide from coming in or going out at all. But these are the extremes. I think one of the most important things to tell all anglers is! Tides are just predictions and are not exact. Knowing that you can make better decisions and adjustments to your fishing strategy. The Online Fisherman teaches fishing classes throughout the State. We will be in Port Saint Lucie in December teaching two days of educational fishing classes.
We have a class on tides that we do at some of our schools. Hopefully we will have one in your area in the future. Last but not least, the most important factor in saltwater fishing is the tides. It effects the fish enormously. Thank you for sending in your question to The Online Fisherman. Please tell all your fishing friends about us.
