Do finger mullet run in the Gulf like they do on the East Coast around Indian River Lagoon in the Fall?
Dear Captain " Do finger mullet run in the Gulf like they do on the East Coast around Indian River Lagoon in the Fall? "
Finger Mullet population in the Gulf are excellent in the fall, actually year round they are readily available here to cast net for bait. You can find them on beaches, bays, creeks, canals, rivers etc. They are pretty easy to find. But depending what your fishing for and where your fishing, Offshore or Inshore. The #1 bait for inshore fishing in this area is the Scaled Sardine or Pilchard and also known as whitebait. It is candy to most inshore species like Snook, redfish and trout.
It can be cast netted in grass flats, bridges, piers and off beaches. You can chum them up with Purina Tropical Fish Food. We also catch threadfin, pinfish, pigfish, menhaden, blue runner, spanish sardines, scad, crab and more.
