I want to bottom fish from my kayak in deep water. What do I need?

Dear Captain"I'm looking to purchase a big game rod to keep on my kayak. What type of rig would you suggest?"

There are a few ways to go with mid-range to heavy-grade tackle you can use on a Kayak. One thing for certain: if you're new to fishing deep(er) water for bottom or pelagic fishing spinning tackle is your first choice. More experienced anglers or people with experience with "casting" or "Level-wind" tackle may decide to take that option, but again, for newbie deep kayak anglers you cannot go wrong with the right spinning tackle.

Heavy Spinning tackle for kayak fishing

These combos are powerful enough to lift grouper off the bottom and fight tarpon around structure, yet sensitive enough to flat line for kingfish and other pelagic fish. Thank you for using The Online Fisherman and we would greatly appreciate your visiting (and Liking) our Facebook page. It contains stuff you will not see here on the site.

We have selected a few of the more inexpensive options for putting together a heavy-duty spinning rod and reel for your kayak adventures. There are plenty more out there, and you can spend a great deal more money (!) but any of these combos will work just fine.
