Is the Gag Grouper Season Open?

Dear Captain"Is the Gag Grouper Season Open?" Dear Captain "Are gag grouper open or closed. FWC says yes, the Waterline says no. I called FWC but I didn't get a straight answer."

The answer to your question is best answered by copy we found on myFWC.com - the official site of the (Great) Florida Fish and Wildlife state organization. We sure wish the state would provide budgets so that FWC could have more officers on the water, but that aside, the incredible work they do is well appreciated by TheOnlineFisherman. We've had long-standing (and good) relations with the law enforcement and conservation professionals that can be found throughout the organization.

For the entire Grouper regulations page, go here. It includes all the grouper, not just the Gag.

Gag2

Gag grouper recreational harvest will close in state waters off the coasts of Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson and Taylor counties July 1, with the last day of harvest June 30. This area will reopen Sept. 1 through Dec. 31.

The four-county region includes all waters of Apalachicola Bay and Indian Pass, including those in Gulf County, and all waters of the Steinhatchee River, including those in Dixie County.

The gag grouper recreational harvest season in Gulf of Mexico state waters, not including Franklin, Jefferson, Wakulla and Taylor counties, opened June 1 and will remain open through Dec. 31, closing Jan. 1, 2020. Monroe County follows the Atlantic season for gag grouper and is currently open.

Thanks,
