To keep their attention and focus on fishing, I would buy some live and and frozen shrimp. I would use very light tackle rods and reels. I would use a hook ranging from a #2 to #1, 14 LB leader and some split shots. I would also have some 1/8th oz jig heads.
In those backwaters using shrimp, the target species would be black drum, redfish, sheepshead, ladyfish, jacks, mangrove snapper and flounder. I would also bring a small cast net and catch some of the local bait fish like creek chubs, pinfish and finger mullet. I would use the creek chubs live on the #1 hook. I would put some of the live shrimp on the #1 and the frozen or dead shrimp on the 1/8th oz jig heads.
The finger mullet and pinfish, I would use live and dead, cut up into pieces. At that time of year the backwater of Foster Bay should have all these species. Let us know how you do.
Taking families fishing is something we at The Online Fisherman promote. So Kudos, you're a good man!!!!!
