Where is the best place to find the pompano bite in the spring and summer in the South Pasco and North Pinellas area?Dear Captain"Where is the best place to find the pompano bite in the spring and summer in the South Pasco and North Pinellas area?"
By far the best place to catch pompano in North Pinellas and South Pasco county is the Dog Beach area over on the Southeast side of Honeymoon Island. The beaches from clearwater to north of Anclote Key are OK, but not as consistent as the dog beach area at Honeymoon Island. The Doc's goofy jig has been the best lure. Yellow with the pink teaser seems to work the best for color but we could not find them on Amazon. We make a few cents if you buy anything we link on the site, and we've found a few other jigs that work. If you can find the ones with the pink head and two hooks in our opinion they're the most effective.
Also, if the water is muddy because of wind or rain, I would highly suggest you tip a jig with a piece of fresh cut shrimp about fingernail size. As far as working the jig. Let it sink down to the bottom of the water column and use a quick snap of the wrist and then let it sink again. Those quick sharp snaps of the wrist has the goofy jig erratically move which triggers the bite.
