Going Old Fashioned to Help the Planet
Plastic drinking straws are very bad for the environment. These old-fashioned alternatives work well and are cooler.
We came across this story and although it's not directly fishy, it is definitely related to keeping our fishy world clean for our kids and grandkids (and greats if you're old enough).
The story comes from HuffPost and is about the good chance that before the UK pulls out of the European Union they're gonna take part in a program to ban plastic drinking straws. The straws are thrown away after one use and stay in the environment forever - or close enough. This article is about old fashioned paper and bamboo (!) straws and even talks about having your very own stainless steel ones that you carry with you. Sort of like personal chopsticks :)
Bamboo Straws are among the eco-friendly alternatives to the plastic ones you find on the beach under your bare toes.
From the article: It's time to suck it up – we've got a huge plastic straw problem, and it's wreaking havoc on our planet. It is estimated that the U.K. alone uses 8.5-billion straws per year, according to the Marine Conservation Society. Plastic straws are also one of the top 10 items found in beach cleanups.
The whole thing - cool and worth the time to read - is here on the HuffPost.
