Frank Sargeant has been one of America’s most successful outdoors writers for more than 30 years, with staff positions on several of the world’s largest men’s magazines, including Outdoor Life, Boating, SEA, Sports Afield and others. He was outdoors editor of the Tampa Tribune for over 25 years, and senior script writer for Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World Television for over a decade.
His work has won some 60 national awards and he is past president of the Florida Outdoors Writers Association. In 2011, he was named the Homer Circle Angling Communicator of the Year by the American Sportfishing Association, the top national honor for fishing writers. He’s also a former winner of the National Marine Manufacturers Association’s Boating Writer of the Year award and the Communicator of the Year award from the Florida Wildlife Federation.
He’s currently editor of The Fishing Wire, contributing outdoors editor of the Huntsville Times and al.com, and a contributor to Bass Times, Florida Sportsman, Game & Fish Publications, and many others.
He is also author of ten outdoors books, including “Boating for Complete Idiots” published with Alpha and now in third edition. He was founder and long-time host of Florida’s largest outdoors show, the Tampa Outdoors and Boating Expo, now in its 26th year at the Florida State Fairgrounds.
During his tenure with the Tribune, he fished and boated in nearly every county in Florida, and also became a strong voice for fishery and environmental conservation statewide.
Sargeant has a master's degree in English and Creative Writing from Ohio University. He has been a teacher at the high school and college levels, and also spent three years as a licensed charter captain out of Homosassa, Florida.
He now resides near Huntsville, Alabama.
