  1. Hey guys an gals, it's been quite some time since I've actually posted anything on here. Still have lurked from time to time but life just has me busier than ever it feels like as of late. Anyway, it has been an excellent Fall to fish this year with the extended warmer temps we're seeing I imagine. Snook have been aggresively feeding with some redfish beginning to re-appear in our usual haunts with the slightly cooler water temps. Live bait has obviously been the bait of choice but topwater plugs are always readily available and have produced some nice fish as well. Between completely overhauling the trailer, adding a new 15hp 2 stroke yamaha, and making some changes each time on the water to my setup I have my skiff basically all rigged to my liking finally as well. I still need to get the gelcoat work done over winter and get a shine back to her (haven't forgotten about ya Phil). Until then, she's running an fishing strong which is the important part. I've certainly done my part to slime her up as often as possible. Even got my first cobia on the deck a few weeks ago while fishing a trout hole with a XL Mirrodine. And, last but not least...three weeks ago I literallly got to watch this snook come to the surface and sip my bait up like nothing and continue to stroll the shoreline. I knew she was a nice fish when I saw her eat, but I didn't know she was pushing 40"!!! Caught on my lightest setup (of course), 10lb braid,20lb leader, an a 1/0 owner circle hook and released healthy to live and spawn another day!! I hope all of you are doing well an keeping those lines tight!

Tough Bite On The Alafia River

Nice to read your reports again BA. I had success yesterday as well in terrible conditions doing the exact same technique. The zman jerk shads skip extremely well under docks if you haven't tried them already. And was that guy serious about a $5 offer!? Not that I would go with it anyway....but $5 darn sure isn't even going to cover the tackle used to catch that snook lol. People are ridiculous.

It's Been Awhile....new Pb Snook Since!

Thanks Dave, we got her back in the water quick an measured her at the same time. My buddies measuring tool is 36" so we marked that spot an had over 3" or so. I'm sure laid flat an with a pinched tail she had to be 40"....but, who's counting?

It's Been Awhile....new Pb Snook Since!

Thanks Ron, she really was ridiculous lol. I couldn't get over how massive the gill plates an shoulders were on that fish. I can only imagine how big her belly was prespawn.

It's Been Awhile....new Pb Snook Since!

Thanks guys. Barry-That gar came from up in ozello. They are all over that area. Especially near the crystal river power plant. Let that one have a pinfish for a good while and still only caught him because the pinfish was stuck in his mouth. No hookset whatsoever lol.

Good to hear Andrew. Lemme know if you ever wanna take the kayaks up north to Ozello an stalk some skinny water back country redfish & snook. You'd feel right at home in some of the areas I frequent when it comes to doing what you do best!

    Owner Single Hook Treble Replacements

Good job on the reds Xavier. Glad to see the hooks are working out so far. Those reds can really swallow a plug sometimes an single hooks will surely increase chances of a deep hooked fishes survival.

    Fishing Knot

Timmy....I primarily use a loop knot application for live bait, lures, jigs, etc. It has held up for me against plenty of strong fighting fish. The leader will fray before that loop knot pops usually.

    Braided Line

Makes plenty of sense. And for the money it cost not worth one penny lol. The only reason that one reel was even professionally spooled is because all my braid was at home and I wanted to give the new setup I had bought a try on the way home. Never again.... I've literally lost so much line with issues that I already should respool it three months later smh.

    Braided Line

How has that stuff worked out for you Mike? The reel maintenance guy at Tarpon fishing outfitters highly recommended the 30lb as well. It is extremely thin for such strength but also more expensive.
