ladyluck got a reaction from phil030 in Great Week Of Tampa Bay Fishing With Friends!
Started out last week heading to the East shore area.

We fished the out going tide, me putting away my arties and attempting live shrimp.  Rubin caught his first Red on an Artie! Great start the new.

The flats then erupted and Dave had a nice red on.

    she was a 27" fighter.

me, ah well, lets say I should have stayed with my arties.  ended up with 4 or 5 rays, puffer fish, cat fish and some monster lady fish.

Next was a try a little further south.  After only a couple of casts, Derick Burgos jumped the biggest Snook I have ever seen on a DOA CAl.  MONSTER she jumped 3 times and two big runs....then broke his 25pd leader.  Derick estimated she was over 45".

later I did find a few trout and Derick took home a nice red.

ok, I knew that Snook was on the flats, went back a couple of days later...bad tide (yep that's what I'm saying lol) found some reds, and more trout, but not the monster snook.  Red and Trout were on a 12 fathom paddle tail.

Met up with Henri White on Saturday and headed to Dunedin.  I was going to try out a soft plastic I had not used before..Called KWiggler...you bass guys will know about this.  We followed the mullet and each ended up with 2 reds CPR and Henri took home a 19" red on a spook Jr.

yesterday, headed to north shore with David and Luis...David swore the wind would not be an issue.  Well it was...lol.  Fished a new area, found some trout, flounder and a ton of puffer fish...I was getting cold, so we left early.

all in all a great trip around the Bay!  Bent rods and Tight lines!

Phil brought me to this site a couple of years ago.  I loved it and still like TOF, but yes, Facebook has changed the world.

Sharing exact locations...a ... NO.  But I am one of those who asked about lures.  It was a way to learn.  I didn't feel that was creating an issue.  As a matter of fact, I post a number of photos with the lure still in the fishes mouth.  Really don't see the harm in that.

And Fish Brain,  a really fast way to see what people are catching.  You can set the Location to Private, so NO ONE knows were you caught the fish.  You can chat with people all over the world.  I just started to use the app Alex and I enjoy reading the stories and seeing the fish.

    Why do you fish?
Why do you speak about exact locations when you post a report?
Why do you keep everything you catch?
Why do you complain when you can't find fish in the spots you have blasted online for the world to see?

Honestly, if you guys haven't noticed... There's a ton of guys missing from this forum that used to post all the time with solid reports (never displaying where they fish or even showing backgrounds in their pictures), but they have stopped coming here due to all the non stop talk about all that crap! "Hey where did u get that fish?". "Hey what lure did u use?" "What depth did u get that fish, were you trolling the flat?"
Seriously, if you can't tell this forum has become a dead zone! Do you wonder why? Think clearly!

What is so wrong with posting reports and pics that don't depict where you fish? Why let the entire earth know where u caught that dink trout? Or came across that school of reds? Why!

I'm sure there will be plenty of people on here that will try and blast me for making this post... But honestly you are the ones that crack me up. This site is all about helping people learn how to fish... And has always been big on hearing your fishing reports and seeing the pics along with it! But at some point you must realize that too much info given is only harming yourself and your fishing spots you enjoy. So why not shut the hell up about all the details?! Why not just say things like "I had a great day fishing the bay"... Or "the snook were really on fire today"... Why tell the world where? If you think this site is only shown to people that are responsible fisherman and everyone respects the fishing etc, you are far from wrong, you are insane! Thinking is a given ability... Use it to your advantage. I've watched numerous areas on the east coast get completely blown out due to "talk". Use the technology we have these days (google earth etc) and find fish! It's not hard to catch fish, but you can certainly screw up a spot by talking about it online.
I know a lot of guys aren't on here anymore due to that crap. For the new members, take this as advice. The guys that aren't one here anymore are truly strong fisherman... They didn't learn from the Internet and sharing spots. It's called fishing, much like hunting.
Respect the fish, learn how to actually fish, and become happy.

I fish with Diawa Reels, (no I'm not sponsored).  4 inshore Spinning, 2 off shore spinning and my two new casting reels for bass.  All purchased at Tampa Fishing Outfitters.  And as an added PLUS, the staff knows the products they sell and can show you the differences between products.

Also love Bill Jacksons, but they have a little less inventory.

thanks Phil and Andy.  I had a good time fishing with awesome people.  Sometimes just getting out there is what its all about.

I'm going to pick up more of those KWiggler paddle tails.  I just bumped it off the bottom, like a shrimp, but it had a little more action and really attracted the reds, I like trying different arties.

The only reason to go to BPS is, if no other place has what you want, you might find it there. They have "lots of stuff" but prices are full retail so I prefer smaller shops closer to me.
Ran into a shop in Homestead called Don's Bait and Tackle on US 1. Good live bait prices, and good ice prices. Had fly fishing equipment, trailer parts and just a lot of good stuff.

I haven't posted in a while. Hasn;t been much activity on here at all. But..I HAD to log this one in. Last Tuesday, 12/15, I was wade-fishing the northern end of Lemon Bay, near Manasota Key. If AndyS reads this, he'll know the spot.

Unlike in past years, someone placed some crab nets along the channel in the ICW. I was switching back & forth between my Zara Spook, Jr., in Mullet, and my DOA CAL Shad Tail in Pearl, on a 1/8-oz white jig head. Hoping to pick up a red or some trout. I've been doing REAL well with the Pearl CAL over the last 2 months. Bet I've caught 100+trout, keeping only a couple now and then, fishing them deep and slow.

Anyway, just for giggles, I flipped the DOA out near one of the crab floats in the ICW. Let it sink for a count of 5 (about 1'/sec drop), reel in some slack, and there's something on it. Sometimes that happens. Well, THIS FISH TOOK OFF!!!! Drag SCREAMING! It was a 7' Ugly Stik Elite (the new ones), Penn Pursuit ll with 10lb PP line. Had to take 50 yds of line before I turned it. Had to tighten drag a bit to do so. Figured I had a big Jack. Reds don't run like that, and it didn't come to the surface like a trout or snook.

15 minutes later I get it close enough to me to see this dorsal fin. I thought, aw geez (or something close to that!), I've got a shark! Wrong-o, buck-o! 36" Cobia! Only my 2nd EVER and my 1st keeper!

I swam it into my hand net, tail hanging out, grabbed it, my rod, my floating "fish buddy", and started the 100-yd trek back to shore, then to my van. I got 8 nice steaks out of it. I figured, based on an on-line fish weight calculator, that it was 18 lbs. Plum wore me out!
