    1st Spring Weekend

So yesterday Tim (Timmy674) went out fishing for a guys day and I kept myself busy wishing I was out on the water with such beautiful weather. So I decided to clean the house and hope that when Tim came home he would be so happy that I did the chores and he would take me out fishing on Sunday....My plan worked! How exciting...We went to out for breakfast then picked up a dozen shrimp just thinking of soaking up the sun....While we were going out battling the wind and the current decided to hide behind some mangroves and toss some bait, hell why not. - this is a good spot to anchor up.The wind had me facing the mangroves and I was PISSED .. I wanted to move so I could cast with the current. We didn't move; of course. So I positioned to do what I intended.... few minutes later my line went tight ... CRAP I'm so turned around .. Don't panic .. Open the bail and line just peeled away. Closed the bail and it was screaming LOUD... I swear I had the biggest Snook I ever caught, the way it was running. Then it started going straight out away from the mangroves, turn around..calm down don't flip the kayak..breathe...CRAP it went under the kayak STRAIGHT for the mangroves and then started digging...IT"S A REDFISH...Just keep tension Tim would say...REEL...okay put the rod up...TENSION...breathe...I NEVER have fought a red like this before .. about 2 or 3 times running for the open water and turning for the mangroves this Red was working me out! Finally got this HOG in the kayak. I was shaking but damn that has to be the fattest RED I ever caught; 10 lb at least - measured at 28"...not by biggest but surely something to feel proud about! Then .. on our damn near last shrimp I got thumped again! Immediately I could tell this was a smaller red just by the way it was flipping and digging down... Either she tired out quickly or I was just stoked but she was in the kayak within 5 minutes. Measured at 23" --- In slot and will be dinner tonight...When we were coming in saw a bald eagle on the MNZ marker just ended this wonderful weekend perfectly.

    Jersey Boy's First Snook

Tim you forgot to mention what he said to me when I came home ...."If you want to leave Timmy for a real fisherman, I'm available ..." :smiley-laug I responded .. Why would I leave Timmy when you were to scared to bait your hook or hold your fish ..

    There's a first for everything!

Way to go Phil!!!! So jealous!!
  9. Thanks everyone! We definitely had fun and it was cool to see the sun come out ... I like being able to multi-task and tan while I pull in bigger fish than Tim. LOL JK One thing I will say .. Someone PLEASE explain to me what the damn point of an air boat is...they scare me, I think they are just gonna come out of the grass or mangroves and run into someone.
  10. I was just wondering when the TOF iPhone App will be available?
  11. Tim!MY FLOUNDER WAS 16.5" - get it right! LOL
  12. My boyfriend and I dropped our kayak in Brasher Park in New Port Richey and made our way north to Hudson Creek. The winds were blowing out of the north at about 20+ knots, which were holding the tides from coming in, but after about an hour, my boyfriend lead us into his "redfish hole". Out of the wind (thank goodness) and the sun started warming us up. When we first got in there, he was scared because he told me normally he sees thousands of mullet and we didn't see ONE fish! I told him we should travel further back because the waters were still very cold. After about 5 mins and a shrimp or two we ventured back to this wonderful, honey hole. Between the two of us, we caught over twenty of these cookie cutter reds. EVERY cast was a fish; It got so REDiculus. They were all between 14" & 17". They were hungry but unfortunately we ran out of bait just as the tide was changing and had to get out of there; in order to not walk the yak out in such a low tide. You can't see it in this picture but all of them had that gorgeous blue on the edge of their tails. We will definitely go back out there but hopefully when we can have the wind to our advantage traveling there so we can rip some lips some more.Any one else crazy enough to go out yesterday?
  13. My biggest piece of advice is to remember your route going out. You can definitely get lost there. Once you turn into the "main channel" drop a line and troll. It gets deep back there. Go on the "Fishy Spots Map" and look at Double Branch, there are a couple pockets that hold fish. Tight Lines.
  14. Hey Fellow TOFers and Happy Friday!!!My boyfriend and I own a tandem kayak and we installed a Torqeedo motor on it and its amazing!!!I was wondering if anyone knows of a device or app for the iPhone that can monitor how far we have traveled and if we can pinpoint where we want to go and it 'drives' us there...like Google maps. The problem with that is you can't track waterways only roads...A fish finder wouldn't help, I don't believe because it locates the fish and the depth of the water and those are two things we really aren't looking for at this time. Thanks in advance.

My Costas are by far the best thing I have ever gotten.Definitely get croakers for them, but make sure they aren't the cloth kind (they wear out easily)!!

    Another Newbie

I grew up fishing cockroach' date=' but now I live by the westshore mall and am trying to learn how to fish this side of the bay.[/quote']If you live in westshore district, try fishing the south side of cypress park ... Welcome to TOF!!!
  18. Phil - FYI - You met me at Dunkin Donuts with Tim...It's not the smaller sizes that are intriguing it's the fit of the shirts ... There have been MANY times I have worn Tim's fishing shirts but they are too long and/or too wide ... He bought me a couple http://www.yuppiegirlapparel.com/ shirts - which I like, but I would also like to promote this website.
  19. What about the ladies? Surprisingly, women like to fish too
