FWC Live Red Tide Map
This excellent resource from MyFWC.com shows us exactly where the (current) red tide is happening and how badly.
The Red Tide has been happening a very long time, and as much as people think that it has something to do with the sugar industry (called Big Sugar) by activists. There are a lot of activists too. And there are more than one "tide" happening. There is an algae bloom that happens in Lake Okeechobee (a green one) and another that grows offshore from Florida's west coast and comes inland depending on tides, weather conditions, and maybe desert dust from Africa (no kidding).
Anyway, we're not gonna get into any arguments. What we can tell you is that Florida Fish and Wildlife - an incredible group of incredible people doing incredible work for every Floridian - has produced an outstanding live tool to track where the Red Tide is happening and how bad it might be. It does cause fish kills and causes respiration problems for people in its direct vicinity so knowing can prove helpful.
There is a Daily Sampling Map here.
