Placing Blame for Fish Reduction
Who's to blame for reductions in fish stock? Commercials are easy to target but the story is no so simple.
This is a really well-written article about commercial fishing and its impact on fish stocks. Although the author is writing about stripers (and exhibits a vast knowledge of the issues at hand for his fisheries) about stripers, the message should be clear to those of us living on Florida's West Central Coast. Fish stocks are certainly impacted by commercial anglers, but they are making a living and no more want to kill off the fish than you do. Read the story - and you'll get where we're coming from.
Now, I will acknowledge, I’m often a critic of commercial fishing practices that I think are more destructive than productive, and I’ve welcomed plenty of criticism for it. I’ve even changed my tune on some of it. Not much, but some.
