The Amazing Boxer Crab

This is not a fishing story - it is about a crab that splits anemones in half and uses them as gloves. Really. No crap.

This is one of those stories that will probably be around for a few days, but it was first put up as a public interest piece by one of our favorite Brit papers - the Daily Mail. It is about studies that show that these beautiful little crabs are not friends to anemones. They cut them in half, and use the halves like little pom-poms, which they in turn use to kill other creatures so they can eat them. Nice little guys, right?

Boxer Crab

Here's the lead in from the Daily Mail:

Researches have discovered that boxer crabs carry sea anemones around to use as stingers to protect themselves from predators.

The crabs carry the anemones around like pom poms and will even rip an anemone in two if it only has one.

They also use the anemone pom poms to sting food which they then bring to their mouths and eat.
