Water OK to Drink say PA officials but fish not OK to eat.
If the fish are not good to eat, should you still drink the water? We guess it is OK. Right?
It always sucks to hear that fish are not good to eat, but when we read this story from the Herald in Pennsylvania about the state finding PCB contamination too high for eating the (gorgeous) freshwater trout from local rivers but saying that the water was OK to drink we thought you would find it interesting, too. Drinking the water isn't the same as living in it, but the PCB levels are probably considerable if the fish are not edible. I would not be comfortable drinking the water.
From the Herald:
SHARON – Though people can often be found fishing off the bridges throughout Sharon, they’re going to have to throw them all back due to a new “do not eat” warning.
The warning issued last week advised people to not eat any fish caught in the Shenango River from the Shenango Dam near Sharpsville south to New Castle, according to a press release issued by the Pennsylvania departments of Agriculture, Environmental Protection, and Health along with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
