Prefishing the World's Biggest Billfish Tournaments
Costa Rica is a dream angling location. The big billfish tournaments held there are right around the corner.
This article came from The Costa Rica Star. We've never fished Costa Rica but we're sure a lot of you readers have and we would love any commentary or images you might have from your experiences in this Central America fish haven. Having travelled a lot in jungle-rich South America and Mexico to imagine the beauty of the place, this article brings the big fish - the billfish tournaments - into my dream of fishing there.
The gathering being discussed in the story is actually a pre-fishing event. The real tournament happens later. Imagine prefishing this kind of tournament? I'm sorry, and I am sure a few of you can do this kind of fishing. But I gotta tell you a lot more of us only drream of it.
More than 15 teams from Costa Rica, Brazil, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, the United States and Slovakia will face off later this month in a sport fishing tournament at Quepos’ Pez Vela Marina. This round, from April 20 – 21 is designed as a competitive warm-up prior to the World Fishing Tournament, which will take place April 24 – 28 also at the marina in Quepos, near Manuel Antonio National Park, said event spokesman, Jeff Duchesneau.
Maybe someday :)
There is time until April 19 to register to participate: www.marinapezvelatournaments.com or www.ifishquepos.com. You can also register by phone at: 2774-9000, 2774-7009 or 2774-9010. Ask for Jeff Duchesneau.
