Wind keeps tarpon tough and offshore tougher

The wind has not really let up for six months. Tarpon are tough to reach and offshore has largely been out of touch.

We live close to Ana Maria and have some really good friends that live and fish there pretty much every day, so we are biased towards this local newspaper.

From the Ana Maria Islander. The entire report comes from a number of different local anglers and is worth following. We sure do.

Windy Offshore Seas

Six foot seas offshore make fishing pretty-much impossible, even for the kind of 32' fishing machines that target these waters.

Despite wind and thunderstorms, fishing around Anna Maria Island remains consistent.

Tarpon is on most angler’s agendas, although windy conditions make it difficult to target them. Catches are occurring in the passes and along the beaches near Tampa Bay, where live crabs, threadfin herring and large shiners are working as bait.
